In an era where language models are aggressively optimised for engagement, helpfulness, and agreeability, we felt a necessity to build the other half. The tools designed to do our thinking for us were quietly atrophying our capacity to sit with uncertainty, test our own assumptions, and arrive at our own insights.

Nen was born from a desire to build against a structural problem in AI. Every major model is trained on human approval ratings, and humans consistently reward agreement and validation over friction. The result is a generation of tools that tell you what you want to hear. We drew inspiration from Zen, Stoic, and existential traditions, not for spiritual reasons, but because these are the most rigorous frameworks that exist for examining human perception and where it goes wrong. That thinking informs Nen's voice.
